Prior to 1997 the Franklin Police and Courts were located in the
existing 1920 Armory building. The building was review for feasibility
of remodeling for the new police and courts. It was found that the
best long-term solution was to build a new building to house both
departments. The new facility is located on the corner of Main and
South streets. The architecture of the building was required to
have a municipal appearance, but could not overpower the residential
neighborhood on the South side of South street. The solution was
a one story building with a sloped shingled roof that includes dormers
(the dormers are also utilized for ventilation).
